A wedding is the ceremony that unites the bride and the groom into marriage. The way the ceremony goes varies greatly among cultures, religions and social classes. Nevertheless, the wedding remains one of the most important events in a person’s life symbolizing the beginning of married life and the creation of a family.

Most wedding ceremonies are religious in their nature. They usually involve the exchange of vows about mutual feelings and promises for future mutual cooperation and life, exchange of gifts, symbolic items, and flowers. In almost all cases the proclamation of the wedding is seen by a big group of the both groom and bride’s families and friends.

The wedding usually starts with a verity of rituals taking places sometimes days before the actual wedding. Then, the wedding ceremony takes place headed by a priest or some kind or religious minister. In many modern societies that role can be taken by an authority figure ranging from an officer, judge to a ship captain. After, there is a wedding reception where the newly-weds are congratulated and presented with gifts.

Wedding are usually accompanies with unique music, flower arrangements, clothes, poetry, prayers and rituals. Many young couples are looking for ever more innovating places and methods to say the faithful yes to their partner.

Weddings have come a very long way since previous eras. Now, there is a great variety of ceremonies that the young can choose from. There are civil weddings, religious weddings, destination weddings, white weddings, theme weddings, weekend weddings, military weddings, small circle weddings, double weddings and even same-sex weddings.

Same-sex weddings have been one of the most controversial developments in this field. Gay people have fought for a very long time to receive the right to have a ceremony where they would vow in eternal love to their partner. In many cases such ceremonies create a lot of disputes between religious, civil and governmental authorities in their respective communities. There are many cases where certain Christian denominations recognize and perform same-sex weddings even if they are not recognized by the local laws.
